Fulbright Israel and Fulbright Germany Present: Knowledge Between the Physical Place and the Virtual Space

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program, and in acknowledgement of the changes wrought to all our lives by the COVID-19 pandemic, the binational Fulbright Commissions of Israel and of Germany will host a virtual discussion, “Knowledge Between the Physical Place and the Virtual Space” examining how institutions of knowledge are to remain relevant and how should they deal with the challenges related to the production of knowledge and the management of knowledge in a hybrid environment of space and place.

The past year has accelerated discussions on how we should manage knowledge in the future. The transition from the physical place, the institutions that manage and transfer knowledge, to the virtual space and network, touches on basic categories that organize human experience: space and time. Sociologists and philosophers have been dealing with questions related to time and space for many years and how changes in these perceptions also change the cognitive maps of society and the individual. The purpose of this discussion is to understand and imagine how knowledge will be managed in the various disciplines in the future when we are forced to share virtual and physical spaces in teaching and in research and in making knowledge accessible to different populations.

The panel features alumni of the Israel and Germany Fulbright Programs.
