Since its inception in 2006, the Fulbright Diversity Institute has been a signature program of the German-American Fulbright Commission. It specifically targets young German high school graduates and students with so-called "migration backgrounds", who are still largely underrepresented at German universities, and especially in international exchange programs.
In September 2017, two groups of each 13 participants participated in consecutive three-week institutes at Trinity University in San Antonio in Texas. The first group focused during its seminar "Discover America via San Antonio" on social entrepreneurship, the second group examined bi- and multicultural spaces during the seminar "Fulbright International Studies at Trinity University".
Both groups had the opportunity to get a taste of living and studying on a U.S. campus which is made up of course work, extracurricular activities, cultural excursions and sports events – and had a chance to meet potential friends for life. A blog and film by participants offer more insights into the seminars and shares inforgettable moments at Trinity University.
The Fulbright-Commission is thankful to the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the German-American Fulbright Program, which co-sponsored six scholarships for the Diversity Institutes.
