From October 8 to 22, 2016 the Fulbright Commission hosted twenty university administrators from various American universities and community colleges.
The seminar started in Berlin where the group visited local universities to exchange views with their peers and a vocational school for automotive technology to learn more about Germany’s secondary educational system. Also on the agenda were meetings with a representative of the German National Association for Student Affairs and with Fulbright grantees and alumni. During a day trip to Leipzig the American administrators enjoyed a varied program organized by the International Centre of Leipzig University, which also included a welcome by the University President.
For the second program week, the group split into smaller, more specialized subgroups and travelled to Frankfurt, Dortmund and Göttingen to meet and interact with local colleagues and to get to know other regions of Germany. The final days of the program featured a reunion in Bonn and a joint program with a group of fellow administrators who had attended a similar program in France. Visits to the University of Bonn and to the Ministry of Education and Research allowed a consolidation of what the groups had learned throughout the 2 weeks in Europe and the city of Bonn provided a nice setting for the farewell.
