An exciting year lies ahead of us, Fulbrighters! You can still apply to embark on a week-long roadtrip as part of the Year of German-American Friendship (Deutschlandjahr USA): Groups of Fulbrighters will travel on three different routes to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where the late Senator Fulbright has served as University President. This interesting trip is well-suited for those willing to organize different events on route to engage Americans in a dialogue on Germany and the transatlantic friendship.
The first route will take you from the East into the Heartland and includes highlights such as musical collaboration in Memphis, Bavarian culture in Georgia and impact of German industry in Tennessee.
The second route will take Fulbrighters along the Upper Mississippi into the American heartland. Highlights include walking tours along the Mississippi, dancing German Volkstanz and beer tasting in Oldenburg as well as discussing German-American military cooperation at Fort Leonard Wood.
The third route of our roadtrip will take you from the South through the American heartland off the beaten track. Discovering Texas-German in New Braunsfels and Austin (Texas), debating nature preservation policies at Sabine Wildlife Refuge close to Lake Charles (Louisanna) and discussing historical conflicts and how they are dealt with today in Little Rock (Arkansas) are only some highlights.
