To celebrate the third round of Meet-a-German that took place on October 6th, Fulbright Germany selected a winner (via lottery) from all the #MeetAGerman pictures submitted and shared on social media during the event. Luckily it was a lottery, because we could never have chosen just one out of all the amazing pictures!
This year’s lucky winner? Samet Akyazi. Congratulations!
In his LinkedIn post, Samet writes:
“Extremely happy and grateful that I've been asked to host this year’s #meetagerman session with the University of Houston-Downtown. With special thanks to Fulbright Germany who made it possible. Meet-A-German gives American schools the opportunity to invite a native speaker over and join their classroom. We talked about German culture, the education paths you can take and what it's like to be a student here. Due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, the session took place online only via Zoom. Perhaps next year ;)"
A big thank you to Samet and the other 147 speakers who volunteered their time this year!
It was wonderful to see their perspectives reflected online – no matter if their virtual Meet-a-German session took place during an in-person class or as remote learning. Check out our recap video of the event below to see what it was like to be part Meet-A-German this year.
Fulbright Germany organized Meet-a-German again in cooperation with the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) as part of Wunderbar Together 2020. Wunderbar Together 2020 USA is a collaborative initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by the Goethe-Institut.
