On October 3, several thousand students at 135 schools in the U.S. had the chance to “meet a German” and gain unique insight into contemporary Germany as well as its past.
We are proud to announce that, with the help of all our participants, we were able to bring Meet-a-German to a total of 46 states. This is an even greater number than we had anticipated due to the last-minute confirmation of a Meet-a-German event happening at a school in Wyoming.
This success was also the result of an innovation to the program: For the first time, schools had the option to be matched with a speaker for a “virtual” classroom visit via Skype, in case there was no speaker available. A number of speakers and schools used this option and provided very positive feedback on their experience.
One teacher wrote, “My students and I loved our Skype day with our very own German. He patiently answered what may have been over a hundred questions for four hours and played a game with my students. He even opted to miss his favorite college class to be with my German students after lunch! We very much appreciated the opportunity to meet him via Skype.”
You can read more quotes from participants and find out more about the program on the Meet-a-German webpage.
