Fulbright Germany and the German Association for American Studies (DGfA) presented the winners of the 2018 Fulbright American Studies Award on May 24, 2018 at the 65th Annual Conference of the German Association for American Studies (DGfA) at the Freie Universität Berlin.
The Fulbright American Studies Award is financed by Fulbright Germany and the German Association for American Studies (DGfA) and supports research projects in the broad area of American Studies that are conducted by young German scholars in the context of their doctoral dissertations or “habilitation”.
This year, for the first time, two scholars were selected for the award:
Dr. des. Ilka Brasch, Assistant Professor at Leibniz Universität Hannover, who is currently working on her second book titled: “Writing Democracy: Book Culture, The Picaresque, and the Archive of the Early Republic” and Dr. Katrin Horn, Assistant Professor at the Universität Bayreuth, whose second book project is titled: “Economy and Epistemology of Gossip in 19th and early 20th Century US-American Literature and Culture“.
The award was presented by Charlotte Securius-Carr from Fulbright Germany during the opening ceremony of the Annual Conference of the German Association for American Studies and it includes award money to help finance the scholars’ project-related research in the U.S.
