Since its inception in 2006, the Fulbright Diversity Institute has been a signature program of the German-American Fulbright Commission. It specifically targets young German high school graduates and students with so-called “migration backgrounds”, who are still largely underrepresented at German universities, and especially in international exchange programs.
This year, due to the program’s great success, we were, for the first time, able to offer two consecutive institutes at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas: our well-established “Discover America via San Antonio” institute, with a thematic focus on social entrepreneurship (in August); and the new “Fulbright International Studies at Trinity University” institute, which examines bi- and multicultural spaces in San Antonio (in September).
Both groups of 15 students each experienced an exciting three-week glimpse at living and studying on a US campus, including course work, extracurricular activities, cultural excursions, sports events – and had a chance to meet potential friends for life. Participants will share their experiences at a debriefing meeting in Berlin, where they will also meet members of the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the German-American Fulbright Program [new link to VFF site, once available], which co-sponsors the Diversity Institute(s).
The 2017 program will be announced in late October 2016. For more information, please click here: https://www.fulbright.de/programs-for-germans/studierende-und-graduierte/diversity-institute.
