The Fulbright American Studies Summer Session at the Humboldt University brought 12 German students in Bachelor programs from all over Germany to Berlin for 4 weeks in July and August. For the second time the Commission had engaged U.S. Fulbright alumnus Professor Philip Michelbach, PhD, to be the main teacher and contact, assisted by other U.S. Fulbright professors as well as 2 doctoral students from the American Studies Department of the Humboldt University. In addition to the course work, the group met with experts in immigration, sports, international education and politics, and had special meetings at the German Federal Foreign Office (“Auswärtiges Amt”) and at the U.S. Embassy. Lastly, the group met with Fulbright alumni from various categories to facilitate contact and networking. The format as part of Humboldt University’s Winter and Summer University (HUWISU) was again extremely well received and the Commission plans to continue this program in 2017.
