Wendelstein 7-X: A Star on Earth, Right Here in Germany!

By Alexandra LeViness

In my presentation during the Berlin Seminar 2018, I give an introduction to plasma physics, the study of hot, ionized gases, as well as its applications to controlled nuclear fusion. The goal of fusion research is to create a source of sustainable, clean energy using the same processes that fuel the sun.

Alexandra LeViness is a 2017-2018 grantee of the Fulbright Research/Study Program. She graduated in 2017 from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in physics and mathematics and minoring in German and Russian. Alexandra has spent her Fulbright year living in Greifswald where she does experimental research on the plasma device Wendelstein 7-X. When her Fulbright period ends, she will begin a PhD program in plasma physics at Princeton University.
