The German – American Encounter: A Personal View of Transatlantic Diplomacy

26.02.2020

On the evening of February 24th, German-American Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Germany) in Berlin hosted a special guest from the University of Pennsylvania: Professor Emeritus Dr. Frank Trommler from the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures. „Building bridges is the important factor within transatlantic cultural diplomacy. It is great to have an organization like Fulbright that provides continuity through the various fields responding.”

Special Programs Student Assistant Kerstin Noack from Fulbright Germany reflected on Soft Power of People to People Diplomacy: “Fulbright has been promoting cultural exchange since 1948 - the last seven decades and the amount of Fulbright alumni worldwide have proven that cultural diplomacy empowers people to become citizen ambassadors.”

What a lively discussion! Special thanks to Frank Trommler, who afforded this great networking opportunity to bring representatives of both the University of Pennsylvania, especially the PennClub of Germany, and alumni, grantees and staffers of the Fulbright Program closer together, encouraging all participants to share their thoughts on cultivating transatlantic cultural diplomacy.
