Trilateral Science Slam in Tucson, AZ

We cordially invite you to our Trilateral Science Slam in Tucson, AZ on July 11, 2019, where six young German, Russian and American scientists will share the stage to present their original research results and “duke it out” during successive 10-minute rapid-fire “performances” (all in English).

After the scandals and preconceptions about diesel engines, are they in fact poised for a comeback thanks to next-generation technology? Are we on the brink of the next gold rush and finding ways to extract tiny bits of gold, equivalent to the boom fracking has caused in finding previously unreachable fossil fuels? Can the freshwater cnidarian Hydra show us the way to eventually regenerate a human limb or organ? The topics are intriguing – but is it the slammers’ personalities that will knock you out? You, in the audience, are the jury and decide who wins!

Russians have won the first two trilateral slams in Berlin and Göttingen. But how will they fare at this first one on US soil? And will they be at a disadvantage with the added challenge of delivering their slams in English? Host Drew Portnoy will moderate the bout and make sure all slammers get their shot at the prize.

This is the first time a science slam will be included in the RCSA’s annual Cottrell Scholar Conference. Their Cottrell Scholar Award is the inspiration for our own Fulbright-Cottrell Award.

Here is more on the scientist-slammers, their slam-topics, and the slam host.

This short “best of” film from our June 3 trilateral science slam in Göttingen, Germany will give you a taste of what you can expect at the Tucson slam.
