Susanne Hamscha - Coordinator of the European Fulbright Diversity Initiative (EFDI)

Fulbright Germany and Fulbright Austria are pleased to announce that Susanne Hamscha will be making an important move inside the European Fulbright community at the beginning of July. In Berlin, she will assume the position of coordinator of the European Fulbright Diversity Initiative (EFDI). Here, she will be in charge of the implementation phase of the diversity initiative along with our diversity liaison Courtney Moffett-Bateau.

This past year, Susanne already served as the point of contact at Fulbright Austria for EFDI and actively contributed to the initiative as a task force member. This insight paired with her intimate knowledge of the Fulbright Program and her strong academic background in American cultural studies will be essential to bring the initiative into the next phase.

The fact that Susanne is seizing this new endeavor means that there is an exciting opportunity to join the Fulbright Austria team as a program officer in Vienna where Susanne has done a great job managing a wide variety of Fulbright opportunities for Austrian and US scholars, artists, and professionals

Sophie Maaß – Communications

Prior to coming to work at Fulbright, Sophie Maaß managed communications at the American Academy in Berlin, overseeing press work for fellows and alumni, social media, the website, the newsletter, and the Academy’s in-house magazine. Before starting to work in public relations and communications, she was employed as a journalist for Der Tagesspiegel and its daughter company Qiez, reporting on all Berlin-related topics from education to politics and society. Sophie has a bachelor’s degree from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in African Studies and a diploma from Freie Journalistenschule Berlin in Journalism. She has lived abroad in the United States and in South Africa.
