U.S. Scholars visit Fulbright Office

Faculty and staff from Union College (New York) meeting with director and writer Jenny Erpenbeck (front row, center) in Berlin.

As a Mellon Foundation-sponsored learning and exchange opportunity overseen by the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) in Berlin, a group of faculty and staff from Union College (New York, USA) visited the headquarters of the Fulbright Commission in June to learn about opportunities for exchange and also about the vibrant range of options available through the Commission in Germany.

Members of the Union faculty belong to different disciplines and departments--from Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures to Political, Library and Computer Sciences, History, Mathematics, and Economics. In conversation with the executive director Dr. Oliver Schmidt and his colleague Antje Outhwaite, the group learned of the history of Fulbright in Germany and also asked questions pertaining to possible exchanges and to their topic of interest while in Berlin, namely structures of global and environmental justice and sustainability.
