Fulbright Germany welcomes the return of Professor Barbara Ischinger

Professor Dr. Barbara Ischinger

While busy with a number of other academic projects, Barbara Ischinger was excited to have the opportunity to be immersed one more time in the Fulbright world. With her knowledge and experience in the field of higher education, and having been the Executive Director of the German-American Fulbright Commission previously from 1994-2000, we look forward to her insight and guidance in supporting Fulbright Germany’s mission of promoting international understanding and exchange even in these challenging times.

Barbara Ischinger is Adjunct Professor in Humanities at the University of Cologne and among other responsibilities is Vice President of the Board of the University of Göttingen and of the University College at the University of Freiburg. She is also a member of the Strategic Committee of the University of Geneva and trustee of the board of the Museums of Natural History in Berlin and Frankfurt.

She has held a range of senior positions over the last twenty years in the fields of international cooperation and higher education, with a focus on Europe, the United States, and Africa.

From 2006 until 2014, she was Director for Education and Skills at the OECD in Paris and from 2000 to 2005 Executive Vice-President of Humboldt University in Berlin. She was the Executive Director of the German-American Fulbright Commission (1994-2000) and Director for Cultural Identities at the UNESCO (1992-1994).

In 2013 she received the INSSO (International Skills Standards Organisation) Global Award for Leadership in Education and Workforce Development, together with the Honorable Gordon Brown, UN Envoy for Education.

We welcome Barbara Ischinger as Managing Director a.i.
