As of 2009/2010 the Potsdam – Junior Fulbright Lectureship in American Studies will be located at the University of Potsdam. This new special grant is meant as an opportunity for younger aspiring American Studies scholars in the US (about 3-5 years beyond the PhD or at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank) and comes as a result of a new cooperation between the University of Potsdam and the Fulbright program in order to enhance the strong American Studies Program in Potsdam.
ELIGIBILITY
Scholars in the field of American Studies, including social science, American history, culture, literature and related fields with a solid teaching (and research) record are invited to apply.

DESCRIPTION
The Potsdam – Junior Fulbright Lectureship in American Studies is a new initiative to create an interesting position for a younger career oriented American scholar seeking international experience and willing to share American Scholarship and teaching methods.
The position will allow the recipient to teach two to three advanced courses (a maximum of 6 teaching hours per week) and use the research facilities of the host university and neighboring institutions.

NUMBER OF GRANTS
One grant is available during each academic year. The preference is for an academic year grant (equals two teaching semesters) but a one-semester award beginning either September 2009 or March 2010 will also be considered.
GRANT BENEFITS
- Monthly stipend of Euro 2.050 (or 2,326 with spouse allowance)
- Incidental allowance of Euro 500 per semester
- International travel for the grant holder (according to the Fulbright Commission guidelines)
- An intensive German language course (4 weeks in duration) in Potsdam or at Goethe-Institute location, if applicable
- Orientation and mid-year meetings
- Health insurance
- A fully equipped office
- A student assistant
- Free housing in Potsdam
- Possibility of additional benefits for conferences in Potsdam and other professional activities.
- Outreach activities (lecturing opportunities at other German universities, etc.)
- Administrative and academic support through the International Office of the University of Potsdam (by the Welcome Center of University of Potsdam) and the Department for American Studies and the Fulbright Commission in Berlin.
