As of 2009/2010 the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in American Studies will be located at the University of Tübingen.
ELIGIBILITY
The Chair is suitable for American Scholars who have had little or now prior experience in Germany. It is not available to scholars who have had a grant to within the past 5 years.
Scholars in the in the fields of American Studies including culture/literature, history, political science, who have substantial research and teaching experience and an excellent publication record, are invited to apply.

DESCRIPTION
The Distinguished Chair in American Studies was established in Germany in 1996 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the worldwide Fulbright program.
The chair has now been committed to the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen until academic year 2011-2012, and combines a outstanding academic assignment with attractive benefits from the host university and the Fulbright Commission.
The position will allow the recipient to teach two to three advanced courses (a maximum of 6 teaching hours per week) and use the research facilities of the host university and neighboring institutions.

NUMBER OF GRANTS
One grant is available during each academic year. The preference is for an academic year grant (equals two teaching semesters) but a one-semester award beginning either September 2009 or March 2010 will also be considered.
GRANT BENEFITS
- Monthly stipend of Euro 5,000 (or 5,276 with spouse allowance)
- Incidental allowance of Euro 500 per semester
- International travel for the grant holder (according to the guidelines set by the Fulbright Commission)
- An intensive German language course (4-6 weeks in duration) in Tübingen or at Goethe-Institute location
- Orientation and mid-year meetings
- Health insurance
- A fully equipped office
- A student assistant
- Free housing in Tübingen
- Possibility of additional financial compenstation if an additional course will be taught
- Outreach activities (lecturing opportunities at other German universities, etc.)
- Administrative and academic support through the International Office of the University of Tübingen and by the Fulbright Commission in Berlin
