Berlin Capital Program 2009
November 15 – 22, 2009
Special funding offered by the German Foreign Office enabled the Fulbright Commission to continue its Berlin Capital Program in 2009. The Berlin Capital Program which took place November 15-22, 2009 in Berlin and in Leipzig offered 16 young American journalists the opportunity to explore which political, economic and cultural factors, both German and European, shape our society, and how they affect German-American relations and public opinions. With political decision makers, German journalists and foreign correspondents they discussed German politics in practice and the importance of the media in the political decision-making process.
As Germany´s media landscape is undergoing dramatic transformations, they asked how journalists today are prepared both for work assignments in the traditional and the new media, how they are educated to report about a culturally and ethnically diverse society and how they view professional and ethical standards. The young journalists were welcomed by many hosts, among them the Deutsche Welle-TV, Spiegel Online, Berliner Zeitung, the German Foreign Office, and the MDR in Leipzig.
Once again, the German-American Fulbright Commission would like to thank all speakers, guests and participants who contributed to this year´s Berlin Capital Program and made it a huge success.
