Fulbright Alumni Association: Welcome Meeting 2006 in Frankfurt
October 2006
On the last weekend in October, 120 Fulbrighters - German returnees, American grantees and Fulbright Alumni members - met in Frankfurt for the Welcome Meeting 2006, organized by the Fulbright Alumni Association of Germany. The motto of the meeting was "Frankfurt am Main - A global village. The world was guest among friends." As the motto clearly indicates, several talks and workshops during the meeting were concerned with the World Cup 2006. During the morning session, the attendees could learn how much effort it was to build-up and to manage the public viewing area at the Main River, which was visited by more than 2 million soccer fans. In order not to overstress the soccer theme, there were two workshops concerned with culture shock for the American grantees and the German returnees, respectively. The afternoon program continued with workshops about German universities as melting pots for different cultures and with another workshop about job opportunities in a consulting company. At the end of the afternoon session, the workshop results were presented by each group with the scenery of Frankfurt's skyline in the background. The social program for the attendees included a delicious buffet in the evening and dancing until 1 o'clock in the morning. After the brunch on Sunday, the Welcome Meeting concluded with a city and a museum tour.
