Marcus Ahlers was born in Albany, NY in 1974. He graduated from Skidmore College in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in studio art and art history.
Marcus then spent two years in Boston, Massachusetts, studying at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Massachusetts College of Art. In 2000, He moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to pursue his graduate studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art, receiving an MFA in 2002.
In September 2002, Marcus went to Berlin with a Fulbright grant, and has remained there to this day.
