Board News

The Fulbright Commission Board has undergone important changes in the last months.

Dr. Helena Kane Finn, the new chairperson of the Fulbright Commission, took up her assignment as Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin at the end of August 2007. She replaced Ms. Anne Chermak, who was the chairperson of the Commission's Board since September 2004. Dr. Finn, a career diplomat of the Department of State, served as Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv (2003 - 2007). She has been the Cyrus Vance Fellow in Diplomatic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York (2002 - 2003). Detailed CV of Dr. Finn (pdf).

Dorothea Fitterling, board member since 1998 on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), retired from her position as Director Northern Hemisphere Department. She has been replaced by Dr. Annette Julius.

Dr. Hans J. Naumann, Chairman, Niles-Simmons-Hegenscheidt GmbH, was appointed as successor to Mr. John M. Guarino, Coca Cola Company, who has served on the board since 2005.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Stefan Hormuth, member of the Fulbright Commission since 2001, has become the new DAAD President. Prof. Hormuth’s position was filled by Prof. Dr. Dieter Lenzen, President of the Free University of Berlin.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those leaving for their yearlong commitment and welcome the new members to the Board.
